2014 Chevy Volt To Start At $34,995 - $5,000 Less - Soon
The 2014 Chevrolet Volt, which allows gas-free driving for an EPA-estimated 38 miles, will start at $34,995, (including an $810 destination fee), $5,000 less than the previous model. With federal tax credits ranging from $0-$7,500 (depending on individual tax liability), pricing could start at $27,495.
“The lower price and cost savings from driving on electricity provide Volt owners an unmatched balance of technology, capability and cost of ownership,” said Don Johnson, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet sales and service. “The 2014 Volt will offer the same impressive list of features, but for $5,000 less. We have made great strides in reducing costs as we gain experience with electric vehicles and their components,” Johnson said. “In fact, the Volt has seen an increase in battery range and the addition of creature comforts, such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and MyLink, since its launch in 2010.”
The 2014 Volt will start to be available in dealer showrooms late this summer and in two new colors – Ashen Gray Metallic and Brownstowne Metallic for the 2014 model year – and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Tesla Shares Reach 9 Times Its 2010 IPO Price
Second Quarter Earnings
Tesla reported, in a letter to shareholders, that its second quarter income was $26 million, an increase of 70 percent from last quarter's $15 million, on revenues of $551 million, driven by record Model S deliveries and a significant improvement in automotive gross margin.
Stock Soars
Tesla's stock went public just over 3 years ago on June 29, 2010 at $17 a share, opened at $19, and, after a whipsaw session closed $23.89, a 40 percent first session gain on a day when the Dow fell 268 points to 9,870. Since then Tesla's stock has rallied to nine times its IPO price. Kick your rear bumper unless you loaded up on virtually any stock that day.
Sales Grow
Over 13,000 Model S customer vehicles are now on North American roads and have logged nearly 60 million miles, according to today's report. Tesla's production rate grew by 25 percent from 400 to almost 500 vehicles per week with 5,150 cars delivered during the quarter, significantly surpassing the company's expectation of 4,500 deliveries.
Global Expansion
Global Model S demand continues to grow, driven by Tesla's geographic expansion and enhancements to both the product and ownership experience. North American deliveries outside Tesla's home state of California grew at twice the rate of California deliveries this quarter. Deliveries into Europe began this week, with the first cars arriving in Norway, Switzerland and the Netherlands. In Norway alone, almost 800 vehicles are expected to be delivered this year based on current orders. Orders from Europe have grown every month since February. If demonstrated demand in North America and Europe is matched by similar demand in Asia, annualized sales for Model S could exceed 40,000 units per year by late 2014.
Recharging
Tesla's goal is to make recharging Model S as fast and as convenient as possible to enable worry-free long distance driving. Tesla is rolling out 120 kW Superchargers, which are 33 percent faster than the current version and can replenish half a charge in just 20 minutes, for free.
Coming Soon
The Tesla Model X, with 0 to 60 mph acceleration in less than 5 seconds and falcon wing doors for easy third row access, will go on sale in 2014 and be priced comparable to a similarly equipped Model S.

Test Drive: 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid - Great Looks, Great MPG
The 2013 Jetta Hybrid took me almost 160 miles on a quarter tank of gas or
about 3 gallons which, projected out, is over 600 miles or better than 50
miles to the gallon on a single tank with a mix of street and highway
driving. That's impressive, especially when the advertised combined mpg is 45. The Jetta hybrid braking may have been the only small difference but didn't take much getting used to. The Jetta hybrid is a greener alternative to the diesel version and also a way Volkswagen, with its lofty sales goals, can appeal to the hybrid crowd. On the diesel comparison, I had just started my week long test drive in the Jetta Hybrid when a father and son pulled up next to me their Passat TDI bragging about its 45 mpg and the fact it was manufactured in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Same manufacturer with another economical powerplant option so why argue. The trunk space was also more spacious than one would expect with two engines.
The 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid is powered by a peppy 1.4 liter turbocharged direct-injection TSI four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 27 horsepower eletric motor that produces and combined output of 170 horsepower. The 7 speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission was impressively smooth and can be operated as a pure automatic in “D” mode or shifted manually and there's an "S' sport mode as well. The “ePower meter” includes the level of battery charge and the available amount of electric driving.
The Jetta Hybrid starts at $24,995 for entry-level model with Bluetooth connectivity, Climatronic dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, and a six-speaker audio system. The Jetta Hybrid SE at $26,990 adds LED taillights, keyless access with push-button start, Premium VIII touchscreen audio system with color energy flow display in the center console and Media-Device Interface with iPod® cable and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio. The Jetta Hybrid SEL at 29,325 has all the SE trim and adds 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a power tilt and slide sunroof, the RNS315 touchscreen navigation system and heated seats with power adjustment on the driver’s side. The Jetta Hybrid SEL Premium at $31,180 adds Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED DRLs and the Active Front-Lighting System, foglights with cornering lights, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a rearview camera, and the Fender Premium Audio System.
The driving experience is very similar to a conventional Jetta but the “E-Mode” which keeps the Jetta in electric mode until the battery is depleted certainly helped me achieve the impressive 50+ mpg.
Bottom Line: Jetta is the most popular VW model based on sales (39 percent of VW first half 2013 U.S. sales) so a hybrid version for exceptional fuel economy is a win-win for hybrid buyers seeking a conventional ride with environmental benefits.
Volkswagen provided the vehicle for evaluation purposes.

2013 Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive Concours
Beverly Hills most famous street was closed down to traffic for displays of collector vintage and exotic cars from the early 1900's to present day. The popular attractions included the McLaren P1, the variety of models of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserarti vehicles spanning decades, plenty of Cadillacs, and, yes, even a corporate jet - Bombardier's new Learjet 85 fuselage representing the latest, largest aircraft in the 50 year history of Lear which will have a price tag of nearly $19 million and can take 9 people about 3,000 miles non-stop at mach 8.2. To make it more affordable, Flexjet offers fractional ownership which means 16 people can own one plane for $1.1 million each and $6,800 a month for 50 flying hours per year.
